What is shared care?

Shared care is a collaborative arrangement between Metro North Public hospitals, and our team of Midwives and Doctors. Your pregnancy care is predominantly provided by our Midwives with 1-2 appointments at your birthing hospital. Share care is only available to women with low risk pregnancies.

Why women like shared care with us

Women like shared care because it means they can receive most of their maternity care from a Midwife and GP who they are familiar with and who works close to their home or workplace.

It also means that the same Midwife and GP who has cared for you during the pregnancy, can continue to care for you and your baby in the weeks and months after birth.  Finding a Midwife and GP you feel comfortable with means that you can get to know each other and talk openly. A Midwife and GP who knows you, can help you make good choices about your care.

The Health Hub Morayfield has imaging, pathology, and other allied health specialists, all within the building, therefore all your antenatal screening tests can be performed in the one place.

Costs of shared care

If you’re Medicare eligible, your appointments won’t cost you anything. This includes appointments up until 6 weeks after birth.

Making a shared care arrangement

If you are interested in shared care, please call us and request an antenatal appointment with a Midwife. This initial appointment will take approximately 60minutes. You do not need to see a GP prior to making an appointment with our Midwives.

How long are the appointments?

Your initial midwife appointment will take approximately 1 hour, this is so we can get a full health history and commence your Pregnancy health record.  All other antenatal appointments will take approx. 20-30mins.
